Block

Block magnets are just one of the many shapes of magnets we supply at AMF. We pride ourselves on the quality and diversity of our magnets and magnetic products. Neodymium block magnets provide an incredibly strong magnetic pull force even in relatively small sizes. Our blocks are available across a large spectrum of sizes; from the minute block of mere millimetres through to larger blocks like the 10cm square. To complement this size range we also stock a number of different grades of Neodymium magnet. If it's Ferrite, Samarium Cobalt or Alnico Block magnets you are after, we've got you covered here too. Block

Magnetic blocks are favoured by the producers of holding devised as they provide a broad magnetic surface. Products such as Magnetic Tool Holders and Magnetic Knife Blocks incorporate a number of long bar magnets placed end to end to create a long holding plane. These are commonly made with either Ferrite or Neodymium magnets depending on the strength of hold required or the need for a slim profile.
Neodymium block magnets are particularly brittle and the corners of a block are vulnerable to chipping. For this reason magnetic holding devices and Rectangular Pot Magnets utilise a steel case to protect the magnet.

Why purchase from AMF

AMF New Zealand works hard to pack and ship magnetic products as quickly as possible. Our team dispatch orders daily and our delivery partners cover New Zealand from tip to tail. So no matter where you are in New Zealand, we’ve got you covered. Simply order your magnetic blocks online and they will be shipped to your door within days.
We know it is tempting to purchase magnets from Bunnings or Mitre 10 however we know you will be disappointed by the limited range and variable quality. Our range is extensive and we ensure we stock only the best quality magnets and magnetic tools and equipment.

AMF has a foundation of experience in sourcing custom magnets. Our longstanding relationships with the best manufacturers enable us to achieve great results for our customers. We work in partnership with our customer and the factories to produce quality magnets in the size, shape and grade of your choice. Please get in touch with our sales team if you would like to discuss your needs further. Minimum orders may apply.

In addition to quality, price is an important aspect of any purchasing decision. We endeavour to keep our prices highly competitive and offer great bulk purchase discounts. If you have any questions about our pricing please get in contact with our friendly customer service team. They are here to assist you with any product or pricing enquiries.

Neodymium block magnets

Rare Earth Magnets were developed in the 1980s and since then the demand for these powerful magnets has grown. Many significant technological achievements would not have been possible without the strength of magnetism these Rare Earth magnets can provide. Historically Alnico, Samarium Cobalt and Ferrite magnets were the three forms of permanent magnet available. These types of magnet have diminished in popularity over time however they still each have attributes that ensure they remain sought after.

Although Neodymium far out performs traditional magnets when it comes to magnetic power, it is left in the shade when heat or humidity are factored in. Neodymium magnets have lower operating temperatures and less resistance to corrosive elements than Ferrite or Samarium Cobalt.

More information on the operating temperatures of different types of magnets can be found in our Knowledge Base articles. Neodymium magnets are available in a number of different coatings such as Gold and Parylene C. These help to protect the inner magnetic material from corrosion. However it is the familiar silver coating of Nickel which Neodymium magnets are coated in as a market standard.

What applications are suited to block magnets?

Magnetic blocks are used to create mechanical movement, generating electricity in many types of electric motors. Blocks are a fantastic option for anyone looking to create a long holding surface. They can be used in a series to create an extended length of magnetism.

Large block magnets are commonly used in water treatment devices. Housed in an exterior pipe clamp or within a submerged instrument, they assist in attracting and breaking down water contaminants. Heavy metals and mineral salts are captured or disassembled, turning hard water to soft water.

Can these magnetic blocks be used for kids building block games?

Magnets can be extremely dangerous for children and we do not recommend using magnets as kids building blocks. Magnetic kids toys have been specifically designed to be safe and must be approved under Australian Safety Standards.

The Pull Force listed for each magnet is based on lifting 10mm thick steel from a horizontal surface. Magnets on a vertical surface (of 10mm thick steel) are generally able to hold around only 30% of the pull force listed in the product description. This is due to the effects of gravity and the lack of friction between the surface and the shiny magnet. Read More
