Arc

The Arc Magnet category consists of one ndFeb arc magnet and a selection of Alnico Horseshoe Magnets. The horseshoe shape has become an iconic image, the distinctive shape has long been understood as a symbol to represent Magnets and Magnetic Force. The arc magnets for sale are commonly used in electric motors and generators as they assist with the creation of rotational movement. Horseshoe magnet’s uses have become largely confined to the classroom. Popular with educators, horseshoe magnets allow for an easy and clear demonstration of magnetic fields and magnetic power.

Neodymium arc magnets are actually far more useful than they first appear. The magnetic field emitted is utilised for DC electric motors to assist in creating a rotational movement by iterating with the electric current. This interaction causes the poles to alternate, repelling and attracting in sync with the eclectic current. The energy generated is key to pretty much any product that needs to convert electric power into either mechanical power or movement. This includes cordless power tools, turbines, starter motors and many white goods.

Although we only stock one arc magnet as part of our general product range, we frequently assist customers with custom magnet orders. Arc magnets for sale will rarely come in the specific arc radius, magnetic grade or thickness that would best suit a newly designed product.

Custom magnets

Arc magnets are frequently ordered as a custom production as there are more limited applications making them less readily available on the retail market. Our team at AMF Magnetics has a wealth of experience in sourcing high quality magnets in custom specifications for our customers. We have long standing relationships with a number of top magnet producers and we work with them to ensure we deliver the best outcome for our customers. Magnets can be produced in just about any size, grade, coating and can even be made with a higher operating temperature range.

If you have any questions or would like to discuss the potential for a custom order please don’t hesitate to contact our team. Minimum orders may apply and this is normally in the range of 500-1000 pieces. It can take a number of months, factoring in the design and transportation times, so it's best to get the ball rolling early. If you have a more urgent order than this please don’t hesitate to contact us, we will certainly be happy to assist if it is at all possible.

Horseshoe Magnets

Horseshoe magnets are the classic shape of a magnet, recognised in any cultural reference or symbolised form. When asked to picture a magnet in the ‘mind’s eye’ no doubt a little horseshoe shape appears, so synonymous they have become. Their use in classrooms across the world has made them an internationally shared symbol of all things related to magnets or magnetism. And it is in this early learning setting that they have instilled their shape in the minds of students learning about magnetic fields.

The vast majority of horseshoe magnets for sale are made from Alnico and painted red on one half, blue on the other. This indicates the two poles present in the magnet. Horseshoe Magnets are at heart Bar Magnets which have been cast into a curved shape during manufacture.

Magnets shaped in this manner have enhanced magnetic power, the pull force is accentuated when attached to ferrous objects. A steel Keeper Plate is attached across the ends of the magnet when not in use, this helps to retain and improve the magnet’s coercive properties.

FAQ

Where to buy arc magnets?

In this day and age, many of us are looking for maximum convenience coupled with abundant choice. Here at AMF Magnetics, we do our best to provide both. We have arc magnets for sale as well as several options if you wish to buy horseshoe magnets. Simply add your magnets to your cart, click through to complete your details.
Once we receive your order our warehouse staff will pack your order as soon as possible, normally on the same day. We supply magnets all over New Zealand.

What are the uses for horseshoe magnets?

Horseshoe magnets are normally painted red at one end and blue at the other, dividing the arc of the magnet in half. The curved shape of the horseshoe means that both poles of the magnet are present on the same plane, with a small air gap between them. This makes them extremely appealing to teachers for the purposes of displaying the properties and the direction of magnetic fields. Coupled with iron filings, the invisible powers of the magnetic field become clearly evident.
Horseshoe magnet uses extend beyond the education setting. Alnico is heat and corrosion resistant making it a suitable magnet for applications that require these attributes.

Can arc magnets be used in motors?

Yes, absolutely. Arc magnet uses predominantly extend to motors and generators. These are certainly the most common uses of this shape of magnet. They assist with a motor's ability to rotate and have continued momentum with less electric or fuel input. Allowing the motor to run more efficiently. For more information about arc magnets, or any other shape, take a look at our FAQ and Knowledge Base articles.

The Pull Force listed for each magnet is based on lifting 10mm thick steel from a horizontal surface. Magnets on a vertical surface (of 10mm thick steel) are generally able to hold around only 30% of the pull force listed in the product description. This is due to the effects of gravity and the lack of friction between the surface and the shiny magnet. Read More
