Magnetic Product Description:

This Alnico Horseshoe Magnet has a height of 100mm, a width of 85mm, and a height of 33.5mm. It has a maximum temperature of 500‚Å?. Our horseshoe magnet is identified by the AMF Magnets part number 49017.

Uses for our Alnico Horseshoe Magnets:

The naturally low level of Coercivity that Alnico Alloys exhibit was motivation for the introduction of the Horseshoe shape. The Horseshoe gave improved power and coercive performance over the preceding Alnico Bar and Rod shapes that were common in the mid 20th century. This coincided with the advent of television around the world and really popularised the unique Horseshoe shape as the visual representation of  Magnetic power. The curved design brings the two poled into close proximity and reduces as well as concentrates the area of the magnetic field, which also increases its strength.  When not in use a metal Keeper Plate contains the magnetic energy within the magnet and further improves its Coercive properties. The development of much more powerful Rare Earth materials with very high coercivity in the 1980's means that today magnets of almost any shape or any dimensions can be produced while maintaining incredibly strong magnetic power.

For practical purposed in Industry and Science fields, Rare Earth magnets have superseded the Alnico  Horseshoe range but some of their unique properties are still valued today. Having both North and South poles on the same plane makes them appealing to educators when displaying the properties and direction of Magnetic fields. The use of iron filings helps indicate the otherwise invisible field between the North and South poles.Alnico Horseshoes resist both heat and corrosive elements and are often utilized in retrieving metals from vats or baths of heated liquid coatings or treatments.
