Uses for our Rare Earth disc magnets:

Art galleries have a special place in western culture. The gallery owners stock and trade differs significantly from almost any other business with wares to display. For instance, the paintings, sculptures or photographs may not actually be for sale, (though copies of them may be). The displayed objects are often original and cannot be found elsewhere. Many works on show are inaccessible, priceless, not to be touched under any circumstances, and for many people, these same works are abstract and incomprehensible and defy analysis or understanding. Sometimes the old methods of bonding different materials like paper, glass, fabric, timber, plastic or metal together to create a piece of art are easy to understand. With these Neodymium magnets, these issues are also easy to resolve. The magnets unique abilities to join, hold and release with low or negligible impact endears them to curators who often require fixing systems that do not damage the ancient and irreplaceable material or fabric of the artworks or antiquities, and whose presence is almost invisible.

The adjustable nature of magnetic hold allows for rapid and secure repositioning of items with little or none of the damage associated with hooks, screws and other less attractive display methods. Self-adhesive  Neodymium magnetised strips with strong hanging powers allow staff to arrange and rearrange works until the desired result is achieved. It is not really possible to assess how something looks or is projected in a space until it is actually in position. For curators with disc magnets or magnetised self-adhesive strips at hand, perfectly positioned exhibiting can easily and efficiently be realised.

The most common coating for Neodymium magnets is Nickel + Copper + Nickel (Ni + Cu + Ni). This coating offers the magnet relatively good protection from corrosion and passive applications. If the magnet will be exposed to moisture or liquid then consider the use of an organic coating such as Epoxy. A hard wearing coating, Epoxy is suited to applications where the magnet will come under some friction or knocking.

Magnets are readily available in Blocks, Discs, Cylinders & Rings. AMF Magnetics specializes in the supply of short-run prototype magnets including Arc Segments, various magnetic orientations etc. If you need a magnet size that we don't carry in stock, submit a Design-a-Magnet enquiry for a quote on your custom magnet design.

Neodymium magnets are offered in several different grades. The first section N30-54 has an operating temperature of up to 80 degrees. Most of our stock only goes up to N38. The second section, denoted with the "M" prefix after the grade has an operating temperature 100 degrees. After this the grades are "H", "SH", "UH" & "EH". In order for the magnet to withstand a higher operating temperature, during production more of the raw material PrNd is incorporated as these elements have a naturally occurring resistance to high temperatures.
