Magnetic Product Description:

This neodymium magnetic block has a length of 10mm, width of 2.8mm and a height of 1.9mm. It has a magnetic flux reading of 4537 Gauss and a pull force of 0.827 kilos. It is identified by the AMF magnet part number B-W2.8H1.9L10-N50Bni.

Uses for our rare earth block magnets:

Rare Earth Block magnets come in all sorts of dimensions large and small, they have a varied array of applications and have acquired many common terms including; rectangular magnets, square magnets, bar magnets and cube magnets.

Neodymium was first discovered in the 1980s and it has largely superseded traditional types of magnets in most commercial operations due to the magnetic strength of this form of the magnet relative to size. However, older types of permanent magnets still have their place particularly in high temperature and moist environments that would degrade neo magnets.

In order for Neodymium magnets to be used in especially humid environments, they require specialty coatings such as Teflon, Gold or Parylene-C. However, most Neodymium blocks will come with a standard Nickel coating that provides a good level of corrosion resistance.

neo magnet revives old model train

I have a 1949 era Hornby Dublo loco that would not run because the magnetism had gone from the horseshoe style magnet. The old magnet would not respond to being remagnetized. After checking polarity of the old magnet and the neo I placed a 10mm x 2.8mm x1.9mm magnet on the tips of the horseshoe magnet. The loco now runs as it should and draws less current that original.
