Samarium Cobalt (Rare Earth) Magnets
Samarium Cobalt (Rare Earth) Magnets were developed in the 1960’s and are strong Permanent Magnets made from an alloy of samarium and cobalt. Often used in auto, marine and medical applications, these magnets are some of the most versatile in our stock.
Samarium Cobalt magnets are from the same family as Neodymium (Rare Earth) magnets and have generally the same strong pull force, however they have much better temperature stability and can maintain their magnetic stability in higher and lower temperatures than Rare Earth magnets! They are ideal for operations involving small spaces due to their high magnetic strength - even the tiniest Samarium Cobalt magnet has surprisingly strong magnetism!

Samarium Cobalt Discs
Because Neodymium magnets do not perform well in high temperatures, the Samarium Cobalt disc magnets are now being used in high performance motors. Accelerometers and gyroscopes - in aircraft, marine and spacecraft – as well as down hole drilling and many precision control systems take advantage of the temperature stability of Samarium Cobalt magnets.
