Magnetic Product Description:

This rare earth disc has a diameter of 25.4mm and a height of 12.7mm. It has a magnetic flux reading of 4450 Gauss and a pull force of 18kg. It is identified by the AMF magnet part number 20005

Uses for our rare earth disc magnets:

On a recent visit to a water treatment company website that harnesses the physical properties of magnets, including these neodymium disc magnets (product code 20005), we were struck by the use of magnets in water purification processes.

Using powerful magnets, this Australian company has designed and built devices for treating water with purity problems, whether in the home or in heavy and light industry. (For an example of AMF working with the coal industry on water treatment issues read our feature article on the Magnetic Grate Assembly).

The device that captured our imagination on this occasion was an impressive apparatus about the size of a telephone book. It is tightly clamped around the outside of a PVC water pipe, 50mm in diameter. The powerful magnets apply their force to the exterior of the pipe, conditioning the water that flows inside, literally breaking down undesirable compounds in the water. These undesirables include heavy metals, salt, rust and scale among others.

This Magnetic device dismantles impure molecules in the water using powerful magnet force without breaching the pipework. This purification can turn hard water into soft water, prolonging the life of all surfaces and appliances in contact with the water and improving the well-being of plants and animals who consume it. Magnets and water purification have a proven record over many decades as a safe, efficient and cost-effective method in civil and rural water treatment.

The most common coating for Neodymium magnets is Nickel + Copper + Nickel (Ni + Cu + Ni). This coating offers the magnet relatively good protection from corrosion and passive applications. If the magnet will be exposed to moisture or liquid then consider the use of an organic coating such as Epoxy. A hard wearing coating, Epoxy is suited to applications where the magnet will come under some friction or knocking.

Magnets are readily available in Blocks, Discs, Cylinders & Rings. AMF Magnetics specializes in the supply of short-run prototype magnets including Arc Segments, various magnetic orientations etc. If you need a magnet size that we don't carry in stock, submit a Design-a-Magnet enquiry for a quote on your custom magnet design.

Neodymium magnets are offered in several different grades. The first section N30-54 has an operating temperature of up to 80 degrees. Most of our stock only goes up to N38. The second section, denoted with the "M" prefix after the grade has an operating temperature 100 degrees. After this the grades are "H", "SH", "UH" & "EH". In order for the magnet to withstand a higher operating temperature, during production more of the raw material PrNd is incorporated as these elements have a naturally occurring resistance to high temperatures.
